The 2010 year looks set to add yet a further chapter for anyone undertaking a thesis on the New Zealand property market. The Government is considering increasing GST including changes to the tax system which will have a direct knock-on for property owners, investors and finance lenders.

Wanting to side step speculating about the future this being our first newsletter for the year presents a retrospective overview of property activity for the Queenstown area profiling December-09 and last month.

The New Zealand real estate industry ended the calendar year transacting just on $29 billion worth of sales from 69,629 property sales. The 2009 year was up 25% in value from the 2008, but is still down 23% from the 2007 year when 92,101 properties were sold with a total transaction value of $37.87 billion.
